Aramex Riverina Unveiled As The New Sullivan Cup Sponsor
The organisation will sponsor the competition for the 2022 and 2023 seasons, however Edwards is hoping the partnership extends beyond next year.
"Our desire to sponsor Group 9 was on multiple levels,” Edwards said.
“We are a family business and as a family we love rugby league to the point where we have attended the past 17 NRL grand finals together. Add that to the fact I formerly played in Group 9 and it presented a great opportunity to promote our business to a wider community.
"I am also passionate about promoting sport to this age group,” he said.
Edwards explained what motivated Aramex Riverina to sponsor the Sullivan Cup.
"The difficulties we face looking for marketing opportunities that are cost effective and cover our whole delivery area was a main reason as through usual mediums - radio and print - we need to advertise three times as our pick up and delivery area covers from Cowra to Wagga to Griffith,” he said.
“We believe this opportunity allows us to cover the bulk of the area under one sponsorship.
"We also liked the age group; it is played with senior football so possibly it opens networking doors with parents that may need our services, but also courier drivers are generally from the younger age group so it may also be an attraction in years to come for this age group to know about the industry.”
Edwards believes it is crucial for local organisations to support community sport.
“We must encourage the younger community members to be involved in sports, for me personally, particularly team sports, but if we don’t set the example as business owners and support the organisations and clubs running the comps, then how can we expect the participants to get involved,” he said.
"But we are also happy to accept the spoils from the community through our businesses so it is a pleasure to put back."
Despite not having any current involvement with the Group 9 competition, Edwards formerly played for the Harden Hawks throughout the late 90’s and now watches local games when he has time. One of his sons will also be playing for the Temora Dragons this season.
Group 9 is still looking for major sponsors for the Challenge Cup and Burmeister Shield competitions. For more information on how to get involved, email
